Acupuncture is often misunderstood as either mystical or intimidating. In clinical reality, it is a calm, methodical therapy refined over millennia to help regulate neuromuscular pathways, ease tension, and support the body's internal homeostasis.
What is acupuncture?
At its foundation, acupuncture involves the gentle insertion of hair-thin, sterile, single-use stainless steel needles into specific anatomical points on the body. These points correspond to neural pathways, fascia planes, and vascular networks that influence physiological activity.
“The objective of acupuncture is never to force an artificial outcome, but to remind the body how to self-regulate and restore balance.” Clinical Perspective · Meena Acupuncture Clinic
Unlike hypodermic needles used for injections, acupuncture needles are solid, extraordinarily fine, and designed to slide smoothly between muscle fibres. Most patients feel only a momentary, mild sensation upon insertion—often described as a slight tingling, heaviness, or gentle warmth—followed by a deep sense of physical and mental stillness.
Sessions typically last between 30 and 45 minutes, during which you rest comfortably in a quiet treatment room while the points remain active. Many patients find the experience so calming that they fall asleep during treatment.
What a visit looks like.
From the moment you arrive at Platinum Tower to your post-treatment discussion, each phase follows a calm and structured sequence.
Conversation
We begin by discussing why you have come in, your health history, sleep patterns, digestion, stress levels, and daily routine. We take time to understand the complete context of your life rather than treating an isolated pain in isolation.
Assessment
The practitioner performs traditional diagnostic checks, including examining the radial pulse on both wrists and inspecting tongue characteristics. These physical signs reflect internal physiological patterns and help formulate your individualised point selection.
Treatment
You recline comfortably on our treatment table. Very fine sterile needles are carefully placed at selected points. Once placed, you are left to rest in a peaceful, softly lit room for approximately 25 to 30 minutes while the treatment takes effect.
Follow-up
Needles are gently removed. We discuss how you felt during the session and provide practical guidance on post-treatment hydration, rest, and follow-up visit recommendations suited to your recovery.
Before your first visit.
Simple practical recommendations to ensure your first session is as comfortable and beneficial as possible.
Arrive unhurried
Plan to reach the clinic 5 to 10 minutes prior to your scheduled time so you can catch your breath and settle into the quiet surroundings.
Wear comfortable clothing
Loose, flexible garments are ideal. Many common acupuncture points are located below the elbows and knees or on the neck and back.
Have a light meal beforehand
It is best not to receive acupuncture on an empty stomach or immediately after a heavy meal. A light snack an hour before is recommended.
Bring medical history if relevant
If you have recent medical reports, imaging, or a list of current medications, feel free to bring them along to your initial consultation.
Ask any questions freely
Never hesitate to share concerns or ask how a point works. When you understand your treatment, your body responds more comfortably.
Plan for quiet recovery
Allow yourself time to relax after your visit. Avoid intense strenuous workouts or rushed schedules immediately following treatment.
